The Happiness Road

Crowned as the king of Vietnamese passes and the most beautiful road in Vietnam, Ma Pi Leng is a must-go destination for tourists in Ha Giang.

Now known as “the Happiness Road”, it did not have such a happy beginning: when being built to link the towns of Dong Van and Meo Vac, thousands of volunteer youths risked life and limb, chipping the road from the stone inch by inch, sometimes hanging off a cliff to do it.

You can only fully experience its grandeur when you are there

In Mandarin, Ma Pi Leng literally means “Horse’s nose bridge” which is the shape of the vertical and craggy peak.

The winding road hugs rocky cliffs, crossing over Ma Pi Leng peak at 2000-m altitude, looking down to the deep canyon of Nho Que river and separating the Ma Pi Leng peak and Sam peak along the Chinese border.

Oh My God! How extreme and how grand!(…) Stepping on the cloud and heaven is just within reach.
